Liberty Elementary has been selected as a 2012 recipient of the ING Run For Something Better School Awards Program by the National Association of Sport and Physical Education.

They were one of 50 applicants – out of 300 – selected to win this outstanding award for their successful ‘Morning Mile’ Program, where students have the opportunity to run/walk around the LES playground each day for 25 minutes, racking up miles as they go. Over 200 Liberty students participated last year.

The program, which is coordinated by Kari Friedauer, the parent of a Liberty student, has been a great way to get LES students up and moving each day, in hopes of instilling in them the importance of an active, heart-healthy lifestyle.

Congratulations to Liberty Elementary for being at the forefront of the fight against childhood obesity and introducing kids to the benefits of running, a habit of physical fitness and healthy choices.

Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming awards presentation!
